This page is all about the age of the earth. I feel that it is an important topic for Christians. (Most of this information I got out of Dr. Kent Hovinds Seminar Notebook.) Textbooks will say that the earth is 4.5 billion years old. Is this true or have we been living in a fantasy? Well, hold on and lets take a look:

1. The moon is slowly spinning away from the earth. It is moving farther away at the rate of 4 cm. per year. Not much. But, using this data, we can calculate that within 1,000 years the moon would have been 125 feet closer. 1 million years it would have been 28.4 miles closer. 1 billion years ago it would have been 28,400 miles closer, and 1.4 billion years ago it would have made contact.3,4,8,10,11

2. The magnetic field of the earth is decaying. It has a half-life of about 1,400 years. If you calculate this back to 20,000 years, the heat caused by the magnetism would have generated complete disorder in the earth's internal structure.1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8

3. Niagra Falls erosion rate is roughly 4-7 feet per year. This gives an age of 8,400 years. If you take The Flood into consideration, the erosion that took place would make the age even smaller.7,8

4. The spin of the earth is slowing down. This limits the age to less than billions of years.4,9

5. The oil deposits are constantly under pressure. They could not withstand the pressure for more than a few thousand years.2,3,4,8,9

6. By calculating the amount of Helium 4 in the atmosphere and divide it by the formation rate, it will give about 175,000 years of formation. If God had made Helium at the creation, this would cause the age to be alot smaller.1,3,6,7,8

7. At the current erosion rates, the continents would have eroded to sea level in less than 14 million years.3,7,8

8. The Sahara desert is growing at about 4 miles per year. Carefull studies have shown that this is about 4,000 years old. This would have started growing shortly after the Flood. If the earth is old, why don't we have a bigger desert?9

9. The oceans are getting saltier each day. If we had an old earth, the oceans should be ALOT saltier.1,5,7,9

10. Small amounts of sediments found on the ocean floor show of only a few thousand years of accumulation.3,6,7,8,9

This is just a small amount of evidence. There are many different ways, using other branches of science, to limit the age of the earth and universe. It only takes one to prove the point. I strongly encourage you to look at the sources page and start studying.
